Humanitarian Accountability Monitoring Initiative (HAMI) organized policy dialogue on “Political Commitments for Post-Quake Reconstruction and Role of Local Levels” on 4th September 2019 in Kathmandu. The program was organized in collaboration with Association of District Coordination Committees of Nepal (ADCCN) and Human Rights Alliance. Hon. Lal Babu Pandit, Minister of Federal Affairs and General Administration was the chief guest of the program. Sita Sundas, Chairperson of ADCCN chaired the program. Representatives from parliament, National Reconstruction Authority, Local Government and political leaders, human rights activists, CSO and non-governmental organization representatives, journalists, earthquake-affected people were present in the program.

The chief guest Hon. Minister Lal Babu Pandit and guest Hon. Tara Devi Bhatta, Member of Federal Parliament launched the Policy Brief Report prepared by collecting issues from the policy dialogue series there were carried out in the earthquake affected districts. Hon. Minister reminded that government is committed to complete the reconstruction within the stipulated time frame. He asserted all the stakeholders have to coordinate and cooperate for completing reconstruction.

In the program, Samir Nepal, Senior Vice President of HRA delivered welcome words to the chief guests, guests and participants. Dr. Padma Prasad Khatiwada, General Secretary of HRA presented summary of the brief. Manohar Ghimire, Deputy Spokesperson of National Reconstruction Authority presented a paper on reconstruction progress status and challenges in Kathmandu Valley. He also shares glimpses of overall reconstruction progress in the earthquake affected districts. Members of Federal Parliament, Hon. Tara Devi Bhatta and Hon. Madhav Raj Poudel; Jitram Lama, Chairperson of NGO Federation also shared their observations and viewed that consolidated effort is necessary from all the stakeholders to complete reconstruction on time. Participants representing different sectors also shared their views were shared in the program demanding to ensure social justice and resilience in reconstruction.
