HAMI organized Post Quake Reconstruction in Nepal What Next” on December 9th, 2017 on the occasion of International Human rights day at Human rights Magna Meet event. Representatives and members from different federations, networks and alliances, INGOs, human rights activists participated in the program. The Human Rights Magna Meet program was inaugurated by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
The program was chaired by Lily Thapa, Chairperson of Sankalpa/Coordinator of 9th Human Rights Magna Meet and Min Bahadur Shahi, Convener of HAMI. Fact Finding Report was officially launched by survivors from earthquake affected districts. They shared their experiences making aware to the concerned authorities by sharing hurdles that their families and communities’ are facing. Their voices reflected pains hardships that they have been facing while being in the temporary shelters. Noticeably, even after more than 30 months since the earthquake, their day to day life has been quite a bleak reflecting worsening situation of overall status of reconstruction process in Nepal. The fact finding mission was carried out in the earthquake most affected nine districts, Bhaktapur, Dhading, Dolakha, Gorkha, Lamjung, Makwanpur, Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Sindhupalchowk.
During the program, different stalls were placed by the participant organizations working on human rights and concerns issues in Nepal. In which, their publications and products were briefed and disseminated to the visitors. A stall was set by HAMI in the program; in which, campaigns, advocacy activities and publications made by HAMI were shared and disseminated among the visitors.
The event illustrated reconstruction progress status of the government concerning with earthquake affected districts. As per the report and sharing session, overall progress status has not been satisfactory; in which, guests and participants expected the government to be more active and effective in reconstruction.
